Amid rising tensions in Manipur, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi made a big claim. While speaking on the Manipur issue, the Congress leader cornered Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Saturday (November 16, 2024) termed the recent string of violent clashes and continuing bloodshed in Manipur “deeply disturbing”, as he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state and work towards restoring peace in the region.

To contain the unrest, curfews were enforced in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching districts. Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi ordered a two-day suspension of internet and mobile data services in seven districts, citing the need to prevent the spread of misinformation and further violence.

Manipur faces escalating violence. Following the recovery of six bodies, protests have turned violent, targeting government officials. The state has imposed restrictions and suspended internet services in efforts to quell unrest and restore peace.
