Former Delhi minister Kailash Gahlot joined the BJP on Monday, a day after resigning from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Gahlot joined the BJP at its headquarters in the presence of Union ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Harsh Malhotra, Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva and national media head Anil Baluni among others.

Addressing the media after joining the party, Gahlot said efforts are being made to build a false narrative that his decision to quit the AAP was the result of ED and CBI pressure.

The development came barely hours after Gahlot quit from the party, citing deep concerns over the party's direction and internal challenges, saying that the political ambitions within the party have overshadowed its core commitment to serving the people.

Gahlot, a prominent Jat leader in the AAP, also slammed Kejriwal for some controversies. He referred to things like 'sheeshmahal,' calling them "awkward" and "embarrassing." Notably, Gahlot was long regarded as one of Kejriwal's closest allies,

In his single-page resignation letter, Gahlot said the AAP faces grave challenges from within. “Political ambitions have overtaken our commitment towards people, leaving many promises unfulfilled," he wrote.
